The performance Subset of a set (clinical feature of a metal, a crystal and a kettle) is a part of a collaborative project with Marija Šujica. The concept behind the performance and several group reading sessions organised by two artists, was to enable a physical space for a dialog between two research projects.
The final form both projects took are artistic publications.
Vanja Smiljanić is the author of the publication Metal, but at the same time… it’s a crystal.
Marija Šujica developed a publication Most Of The Time Not At All Always.
Throughout the performance the publications have been deconstructed and re-enacted in four acts in which two artists are physically and conceptually interlacing their practices.
Objects/documents in the exhibition space, become relics which are testifying de-teritorization procedure of a mental space of the book. In the process there is a tendency to evoke observer’s perception and to confront him/her with cannons of engagement with the book. Examining the use value of objects integrated in both publications, the idea is to enfold their mobilised structure and consequently abolish their status of intangibility.
